Drinking Water
ARIJÓN DETOUR SECTION 2
Santa Fe
The project will provide 169,000 people with drinking water, and enable the further development of 91 towns in Santa Fe, currently limited by water shortages.
PROJECT
Arijón Aqueduct System Diversion-Second Stage-Section 2. Districts of La Capital, San Jerónimo, Las Colonias and Castellanos. Province of Santa Fe
CLIENT
Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport – Ministry of Economy
DESCRIPTION OF WORKS
The Arjón Aqueduct system takes water from the Coronda River, which is part of the Paraná River alluvial valley. Untreated raw water is piped from the river to the treatment plant through a 1,200 mm diameter pipe, at a flow rate of 2.17 m3/s, according to the General Plan. Once treated, the liquid is then pumped through water mains and secondary feeders to each of the localities being supplied, where it will be stored in tanks.
The work will provide the populations in these areas with good quality drinking water, reducing public health risks from water-borne diseases, and allowing localities currently limited by water shortages to develop and flourish. Section 2 includes the execution of all the works involved for the stretch between Pumping Station No. 2, in Matilde, to the entrance chamber to the cistern at Pumping Station No. 3 in San Carlos Centro.
The course of the main water pipe, which is 19.5 km long, will lie parallel to local roads. The pipes used include HDPE DN 1000 mm K10, HDPE DN 1000 mm K08, HDPE DN 900 mm K08 and HDPE DN 900 mm K06, according to the section. The structure is expected to have the capacity to transport the flow envisaged with a 30 year horizon. A pumping station will be built on the trunk section in the town of Matilde, on the Provincial Road no. 36. The main feeder pipe will receive a flow of Q10 = 989 l/s with a delivery head of H10 = 82 mca. Likewise, in order to supply the town of Matilde, the idea is to aim for a design flow of Q10 = 3.3 l/s and H10 = 55 mca.
The station civil works will take into account the space required to house pumping systems serving all the secondary feeders for the next 30 years. At this stage, the pumping systems only envisage serving feeders as part of a 10-year projection.
Work will be carried out to ensure the supply of energy to the pumping station. Cisterns will be placed at the entry to each one of the localities being supplied, and two have been planned for this section. A CCTV vigilance and control set-up will be installed as part of a centralized network designed to fully control all the mechanisms involved in operating the aqueduct system.
