DESCRIPTION OF WORKS
The project is to build the Lola Mora Museum which will house the works by the famous Argentine artist and sculptor, Lola Mora (1866-1936), in San Salvador de Jujuy. The complex was designed by the legendary Argentine architect César Pelli (Pelli Clark Pelli Studio), one of the foremost figures of modern architecture, and is considered one of his last works. Pelli conceived of the building in the shape of a chisel as a tribute to the artist, and located the museum on a bridge structure, high above a natural ravine looking out onto the impressive view of the city as a finishing touch.
The complex is to be built on a 5,000 m2 lot lying in Barrio Alto La Viña, with a has total covered area of 3,735 m2. The museum will be developed on a single ground level, with the main hall housing six iconic 3.5 m high sculptures by Lola Mora made of Carrara marble, and there will be a basement for offices, rest and changing rooms, the engine room and other facilities. The project also envisages three complementary buildings earmarked for the museum’s library and store, a workshop and a restaurant. The set of buildings are to be made of concrete structures with a metal roof, complemented by a 30-meter-high metal tower incorporating five vertical wind generators.
One objective of this project is to obtain LEED NC certification by applying sustainability and energy-saving concepts, as the first public building in the province to apply for certification in these standards.
