Plaza Libertad is a square in the center of the city of Corrientes that lies on the city’s historic sightseeing circuit.
The square has been renovated with sidewalks and paving, new landscaping with native plants, and street furniture. Concrete and rubberized children’s play areas, electric car charging stations, bicycle infrastructure, an outdoor exercise space, and modern automated irrigation, lighting, and video surveillance systems were added.
The highlight of the square is its central fountain, which stands 14 meters tall and represents Liberty, the Republic, and the Corrientes emblem. It is surrounded by sculptures and murals that pay tribute to former governors and historical figures. The sculpture was created by artist Carlos Benavídez.
