PROJECT

Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) for the city of Concepción del Uruguay

CLIENT

Ministry of Planning, Infrastructure and Services, Government of Entre Ríos

DESCRIPTION OF WORKS

The project involves building a wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) using anaerobic reactor technology, designed to handle an average sewage flow of 25,000 m³ per day.  With a 20-year planning horizon, it will provide treatment capacity for up to 117,000 residents.  Located in Concepción del Uruguay, the initiative is part of the Comprehensive Sanitation Program for Cities in the Uruguay River Basin, funded by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).

The new wastewater treatment plant, located on a 5.5-hectare site southwest of Concepción del Uruguay, is designed to process an average flow of 1,064.91 m³/hour, with a peak capacity of up to 2,074.58 m³/hour.

The facility will include coarse solids screening, a full pretreatment system (pumping station, coarse and fine screening, sand and grease removal, sand classifiers, and Parshall flume), and primary treatment using settlers and biological reactors with aerobic, anaerobic, and anoxic phases.
Secondary treatment will be carried out in secondary settlers, while sludge will be treated in anaerobic reactors with a gas line. The biogas generated will be stored in a gasometer and reused in the plant’s boilers to maintain optimal reactor temperatures.

The project also includes disinfection systems, pumping stations, piping, 1,800 m² of service buildings, internal roads, medium- and low-voltage electrical lines, and a final subfluvial discharge outlet.
