El Tambolar Hydroelectric power station– First Stage
CLIENT
Energía Provincial Sociedad del Estado (E.P.S.E), Provincia de San Juan
DESCRIPTION OF WORKS
The works for the first stage of the El Tambolar hydroelectric power plant included the construction of the upstream cofferdam to divert the river; the underground plastic concrete screen; the main conduction tunnel; the access windows, and injection and drainage galleries. The first stage of excavations for the dam foundations, spillway, and powerhouse were also completed. Also built were the connecting roads between the dam and the powerhouse, and the 56 km mountain road built for the purposes of servicing the high voltage line connecting the Ullum transformer station with Tambolar. Complementary geological studies were carried out to execute detail engineering for the main works.
The fourth dike of the Integral Use of the Río San Juan will have the largest reservoir volume in the province (605 hm³), expanding irrigation capacity in the region and regulating the water levels and the flow of the river, which is the motor of the local economy. Its annual energy production will reach 343 GWh.
